Distance Dominance Powers Tulsa Track at Washburn Open

TOPEKA, Kan. – Tulsa track & field closed out the Washburn Open with a dominant second day, highlighted by multiple event victories, podium finishes and a meet record in distance competition.

The day began in the sprints, where Tyler Priest competed in the men's 60-meter dash semifinals and finished 22nd with a time of 6.92. Annie-May Cannings followed with an impressive runner-up finish in the women's 400 meters, clocking a 55.71. On the men's side, Evan Sanni-Thomas led Tulsa with a seventh-place finish in the 400 meters at 47.48, while Colin Madison (28th, 48.92), Luke Finzen (30th, 49.16) and Harrison Stapleton (51st, 50.54) rounded out the field for the Golden Hurricane.

Tulsa controlled the middle-distance events, starting with the women's 800 meters. Billie Rouse claimed first place in 2:12.04, while Sarah Hosey finished second in 2:13.28. Grace MacDonald added a fourth-place finish at 2:14.32, and Hannah Taylor placed sixth in 2:14.60. The men matched that success in the 800 meters as Andrew Lutkenhaus won the event with a time of 1:49.11. Joseph Snyder followed closely in fourth at 1:49.91, with additional Golden Hurricane performances including Jiri Ceska (24th, 1:54.71), Joseph Stoddard (16th, 4:12.30), Zach Lewis (27th, 1:55.49), Richard Matthews (29th, 1:55.61), Karson Pillow (44th, 1:58.07) and Remington Martin (47th, 1:59.80).

In the mile, the women earned multiple top finishes, as Matilda Laidlaw placed third in 4:50.02, Sara Morefield finished fifth in 4:56.52 and Kathryn Koonts took 10th in 4:57.85, while Alexandra Johnson placed 27th in 5:08.31. The men's mile featured a win from Charlie Krasnoff, who crossed the line first in 4:03.56. Graham Stevener added a fourth-place finish at 4:04.12, Ben Brown finished eighth in 4:07.09, Luke Birdseye took 11th in 4:09.71 and Walker St. John finished 12th in 4:11.68.

Distance events continued to favor Tulsa in the 3,000 meters. On the women's side, Sara Morefield won the event in 9:34.29, followed by Matilda Laidlaw in second at 9:40.42 and Kathryn Koonts in third with a time of 9:47.17. The men's 3,000 meters was highlighted by another Tulsa victory, as Charlie Krasnoff set a meet record with a winning time of 7:57.50. Luke Birdseye followed closely in second at 7:57.53, while Ben Brown finished third in 8:08.79. Additional Tulsa finishes included Luke Lambert (6th, 8:12.88), James Knockton (8th, 8:13.42), Joseph Stoddard (7th, 8:13.05), Ayden Taylor (13th, 8:31.84) and Graham Mitchell (14th, 8:32.34).

In the hurdles, Jaylin VonWald competed in the women's 60-meter hurdles prelims, finishing 31st in 9.32, while Colin Madison placed 29th in the men's 60-meter hurdles prelims at 8.58. Field action saw Isabella Famiglietti place 20th in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.34 meters.

Relay events capped the meet, with the Tulsa A women's 4x400-meter relay capturing first place in 3:47.31 and Tulsa B finishing eighth at 3:57.44. The men's 4x400-meter relay saw Tulsa A place seventh in 3:15.06, while Tulsa B finished 22nd in 3:21.97.

Tulsa will aim to extend its streak of podium finishes, with multiple in every indoor meet this season, as the Golden Hurricane compete at the Tyson Invitational and the Gorilla Classic, both on Feb. 13 and 14.
