TULSA, Okla. — The University of Tulsa was defeated 38-37 in overtime by Temple University at H.A. Chapman Stadium on Tulsa's 100th Homecoming game on Saturday afternoon. The 37 points for Tulsa are the most scored in a single game this season.

Baylor Hayes completed 19 of 31 passes for 296 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing 12 times for 18 yards. The 296 passing yards were a career-high. Dominic Richardson carried the ball 19 times, gaining 78 yards and scoring a touchdown. Ray Coney led the defense with 13 total tackles from his linebacker position, including two solo and one tackle for loss. Brody Foley contributed with three total touchdowns, including two receiving and one rushing. Josh Smith set a career high with 112 receiving yards, contributing significantly to Tulsa's offense.

The first quarter commenced with Tulsa receiving the kickoff, but Temple's defense quickly applied pressure. Hayes connected with Zion Booker for a 29-yard pass, advancing the Golden Hurricane to their own 45-yard line. Tulsa's drive faced setbacks due to penalties, but Seth Morgan eventually converted a 36-yard field goal, putting the team ahead 3–0 at 8:32. Temple responded efficiently, with Evan Simon throwing a 24-yard touchdown pass to Kajiya Hollawayne at 3:02, giving Temple a 7–3 lead.

Midway through the second quarter, Temple capitalized on a Tulsa fumble, with Russell Sykes recovering at the Temple 41-yard line. Simon then connected with Jay Ducker for a 1-yard touchdown pass at 8:12, increasing their lead to 14–3. The Golden Hurricane responded with a 75-yard drive, capped by a 5-yard touchdown rush by Foley at 5:20, narrowing the deficit to 14–10. Late in the quarter, Tulsa seized momentum with Hayes finding Foley for an 8-yard touchdown pass with just three seconds remaining, giving Tulsa a 17–14 lead at halftime.

Temple opened the third quarter with a scoring drive, as Simon connected with Hollawayne for a 13-yard touchdown pass at 12:28, putting them ahead 21–17. Tulsa responded with a drive of their own, with Hayes finding Grayson Tempest for a 5-yard touchdown reception at 7:28, reclaiming the lead 24–21. Temple then staged another successful drive, culminating in a 6-yard touchdown pass from Simon to Hollawayne at 4:13, extending their lead to 28–24.

In the fourth quarter, Hardin of Temple extended their lead to 31-24 with a 52-yard field goal at 6:05. Tulsa responded with a determined drive, capped by Richardson's 1-yard touchdown run at 3:44, tying the game. With less than a minute remaining, Tulsa's defense held firm, with Tai Newhouse and Nahki Johnson sacking Temple's Simon, thwarting their final attempt to regain the lead.

In overtime, Temple started strong with Simon completing a 24-yard pass to Colin Chase, advancing to Tulsa's 1-yard line. Simon followed up with a touchdown pass to Hollawayne, giving Temple a 38-31 lead. Tulsa responded as Richardson's 12-yard run moved them to Temple's 13-yard line. Hayes connected with Foley for a 9-yard touchdown pass, narrowing the gap to 38-37. However, Tulsa's attempt to tie with a pass failed, sealing the victory for Temple.

The next game for Tulsa, the Golden Hurricane, will travel to face Florida Atlantic on Saturday, November 8, at Flagler Credit Union Stadium in Boca Raton, Fla.
