Tulsa Sweeps Tulane on Senior Day

11/16/2025 4:01:00 PM | Volleyball

TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa (22-6, 12-4 American) ended the regular season on a four-match win streak, earning a 3-0 sweep (25-14, 26-24, 25-21) over the Tulane Green Wave (11-16, 3-13 American) at the Donald W. Reynolds Center on Senior Day Sunday. The home team's efficient attack was highlighted by a .536 hitting percentage in the first set.

Tulsa had the privilege of honoring seniors Beth Bayless, Kat Cooper, Brayden Hipp and Lauren Eitler during their final match in the Reynolds Center.

"I thought that our team was very gelled today," said Cooper, who led TU with 15 kills on a .481 hitting percentage. "Everybody knew how important it was to come out and win this match. Everyone was out there doing their jobs, and when everyone's doing their job, it's easy to execute.

"It's so special, to be part of this senior class. I can't put into words just how incredibly grateful I am for Beth, Brayden and Lauren. Coming in this season as a transfer, they welcomed me with open arms. They are just incredible people, incredible volleyball players, and I'm so blessed to have been able to experience this senior season with them."

Tulsa opened the first set against the Green Wave with a strong showing, quickly establishing a lead. Olivia Vance put the Golden Hurricane on the board with a kill assisted by Hipp. Tulsa capitalized on Tulane's errors and built momentum with Cooper and Bayless contributing efficiently to the attack. Jill Hanson and Vance effectively blocked attacks, creating defensive stops that helped Tulsa maintain control.

The Golden Hurricane and the Green Wave engaged in a tight contest in the second set, with both teams exchanging leads. Vance started the scoring for Tulsa with a kill from Hipp's assist. Tulane's Ava Derbes responded with consecutive kills, bringing the score to 3-1 in favor of Tulane. Tulsa fought back, leveling the score at 13-13 after Bayless capitalized on an attack error by Sabrina Skyers. The set remained closely contested, with the home team pulling ahead 24-23 following a kill by Cooper. Tulane tied it again, but Tulsa clinched the set 26-24 with Bayless's kill and an attack error from Annabelle He.

The Golden Hurricane earned a narrow victory in the third set, closing out Tulane with a 25-21 score. The home team capitalized on a crucial service run by Maegan Mills, who delivered four consecutive aces, turning a tight 10-10 tie into a 14-10 advantage. Hipp was instrumental in the set, contributing with multiple assists, including a key assist to Cooper at 24-19. Although Tulane made a late push with a series of kills from Avery Burks and Lauryn Mack, it was Hipp's final kill, assisted by Lauren Patterson, that secured the set for Tulsa.

With the regular season now over, the American Conference Championship (November 21-23) in Tampa, Fla., is up next for the Golden Hurricane. Tulsa has secured the No. 3 seed for the tournament with a 12-4 record in conference play and will take on No. 6 seed Florida Atlantic in the quarterfinal on Friday, November 21, at 6:30 Central.
