Hanson and Hipp Recognized Among Final American Volleyball Players of the Week

IRVING, Texas — Standout Tulsa volleyball players are peaking at the right time with the American Conference Championship coming up this weekend as Jill Hanson was chosen as the American's Freshman of the Week for the second week in a row, while senior Brayden Hipp earned her fifth Setter of the Week award this season.
A middle blocker from San Antonio, Hanson was Tulsa's leading scorer in wins over Temple and Tulane, averaging 4.21 points per set. She led the American in hitting percentage with a dominant .514 mark resulting from 24 kills to only five errors on 37 total swings. On the defensive side, she averaged one block per set, including two solo blocks and five block assists.
Hanson led the Golden Hurricane with 16 kills and a .542 hitting percentage at Temple before coming home to produce eight kills and five blocks in the regular-season finale and sweep over Tulane.
A senior from Fort Myers, Fla., Hipp now has seven career Setter of the Week awards under her belt and five in just this season – two more than the next closest setter (Kaia Mateo of Rice). Hipp led the league this week with 11.71 assists per set while averaging 3.14 digs in the wins over Temple and Tulane to close out the regular season.
Hipp continues to lead all setters in the conference in assists and digs per set after putting up her 14th and 15th double-doubles of the season during last week's wins, earning 47 assists and 12 digs in the 3-1 win at Temple before coming home to produce 35 assists and 10 digs in the sweep over Tulane for her final home match in the Donald W. Reynold Center.
Tulsa is slated to take on No. 6 seed Florida Atlantic in the American Championship First Round on Friday, November 21, at 6:30 Central. The winner will take on the victor between No. 7 Charlotte and the hosting and second-seeded South Florida Bulls.
