Volleyball Drops Three-Set Decision at Florida Atlantic

11/2/2025 2:04:00 PM | Volleyball

BOCA RATON, Fla. — The University of Tulsa (18-6, 8-4 American) fell to Florida Atlantic (17-8, 8-4 American) in straight sets in Boca Raton Sunday, with scores of 23-25, 18-25, and 17-25.

Tulsa and Florida Atlantic engaged in a tightly contested first set, with scoring momentum shifting frequently. The Golden Hurricane's Jill Hanson initiated the scoring with a kill, setting a competitive tone. Despite a series of attack errors from both sides, Tulsa managed to build a slight lead at 13-9, thanks to another kill by Hanson, who hit for .500 on the day. The Owls responded with a strong performance from Anna Hartman, who recorded multiple kills to help even the score at 21-21. The set reached a tense conclusion as FAU edged ahead, capitalizing on a service ace and a final kill by Hartman to secure a 25-23 victory.

The second set was tightly contested as well, with FAU ultimately prevailing 25-18. The Golden Hurricane managed to keep the score close early with Kat Cooper delivering consecutive kills from Brayden Hipp to tie the match at 3-3. Maegan Mills and Olivia Vance contributed key points, pushing Tulsa to a 14-9 lead. However, the Owls responded with a decisive run, capitalizing on Tulsa's attack errors, including two by Lauren Eitler, to turn the tide at 19-17. Libby Ashline's service ace and Kayla Richardson's consecutive kills sealed the set for FAU, culminating in a block error by Tulsa for the final point.

In the third set, FAU took control with an early series of successful plays, capitalizing on Tulsa's errors. Kierstin Bevelle and Hartman each contributed crucial kills, with Bevelle recording consecutive points to extend FAU's lead. Tulsa responded intermittently, with Mills securing multiple kills and Eitler adding to the tally. However, a series of errors proved costly for the Golden Hurricane, allowing FAU to maintain momentum. The set concluded with Hartman delivering the final blow, sealing a 25-17 victory for the Owls.

Tulsa will return home to host Charlotte on Friday, November 7, and East Carolina on Sunday, November 9.
