IRVING, Texas. — The University of Tulsa's Mady Cartwright has been named the American Conference Player of the Week, announced Monday by the league. It's the first career Player of the Week award for the junior guard from Greenwood, Ark., who was named a preseason second team all-conference player before the start of the season.

Cartwright helped drive the Golden Hurricane to two wins in three games last week, averaging team-highs of 16 points and 2.3 steals to go with two assists per game. In the Education Day victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, a game that featured the third-highest attendance in program history at 4,165, Cartwright finished with 14 points and led TU with three assists and three steals.

Three days later against the Florida Gators in Gainesville, Fla., Cartwright led the way with 26 points for her third 20+ point performance of the young season and 10th contest scoring in double-figures. She added three more assists and steals, both team-highs, and made the game-winning 3-pointer – her fifth of the day – with 26 seconds left on the clock to ice the game for the Golden Hurricane. It would go down as Tulsa's first road win over an SEC team since 2005, and the result snapped Florida's 15-game home non-conference win streak.

Tulsa will begin American Conference play on Tuesday, December 30, when they host the 3-10 Wichita State Shockers in the Donald W. Reynolds Center. Tip-off is slated for 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
