Update to Softball Weekend Schedule

Tulsa and Charlotte will play two on Friday; Sunday finale
TULSA, Okla. – Due to inclement weather in the forecast for this weekend, the University of Tulsa softball team has made changes to the weekend schedule. Now, the Golden Hurricane and Charlotte will start game one at 6 p.m. on Friday evening. If the game finishes by 8:35 p.m., the teams will play the second game of a doubleheader shortly after the conclusion of game one. The teams will play game three of the series on Sunday, weather permitting. Please check back to TulsaHurricane.com or Tulsa Hurricane social media pages for further updated schedule information.

TULSA vs. THE 49ers.
CHARLOTTE (17-21, 5-7 The American) – Tulsa is 6-3 all-time against Charlotte and 3-0 in the Collins Family Softball Complex against this weekend's opponents. All three of the Niners' wins came last season in a sweep at Charlotte. Before last season's series, Tulsa had won the other six meetings between the schools.
Charlotte is coming in off a 2-1 series win last weekend at East Carolina. The Niners split a Friday doubleheader and then won Saturday's rubber match 5-3 to clinch its second conference series win of this season.
The Niners have four batters who hold averages above .300, paced by Jenna Lord, who bats .393 with a league-leading 15 home runs, which is the eighth best in the NCAA. Her 40 RBIs also leads the conference and is 45th nationally. Karl Shedrick (.314), Olivia Williams (.305) and Teagan Ritchie (.304) also hit above the .300 line.
In the circle, Aubrey Yarnall and Brooke Bowling have combined for 156 of Charlotte's 235.2 innings. Bowling has 20 starts with a 5.56 ERA and four complete games. She leads the team with 59 strikeouts and has held opponents to a team-low .291 batting average. Yarnall has the most appearances in 27, but with only three starts, making most her appearances out of the bullpen. Her 4.72 ERA is the lowest in the circle for the Niners.
THE SEASON SO FAR
The Golden Hurricane is 18-18, 6-6 in The American, heading into this weekend's series with Charlotte. After winning the first two conference series to open league play, the Hurricane has dropped two in a row.
Maci Cole is batting .309 to lead the Hurricane in batting. The senior shortstop has 18 RBIs, second in the team to Celeste Wood, who has driven in 26. Cole edges out Wood in the home run leaderboard with six to Wood's five. She has drawn 29 walks this season, and her 0.81 walks per game average is top in the conference and 31st nationally.
As a team, TU is batting .253 with 36 doubles, four triples, 20 home runs and 136 driven in. Tulsa collectively holds a .357 on-base percentage and .370 slugging percentage.
In the circle, Maura Moore's 3.46 ERA is the team low. She holds a 12-8 record with nine complete games and two shutouts. In 109.1 innings of work, Moore has struck out 70. Alexa Hopkins and Brinly Maples have picked up the majority of the rest of the innings, tossing 52.0 and 56.0, respectively. Hopkins holds a 5.12 ERA with 35 strikeouts, while Maples has struck out 33 batters and has a 6.25 ERA.
LAST WEEK IN TULSA
Tulsa had a tough week at home last week, going 1-3 with a midweek loss to Central Arkansas before dropping the latter two games of the weekend series with North Texas.
In Wednesday's midweek contest, Central Arkansas jumped ahead 7-0 on Tulsa in the first two innings. The Hurricane battled back to cut the deficit to 7-6 entering the seventh inning, but the Bears tacked on four in the top frame and held on for the 11-6 win.
In a back-and-forth Friday opener against North Texas, Tulsa eventually pulled ahead with a four-run sixth to win 8-7. Elle Rouse doubled in the game's first two runs, but North Texas scored the next four to go ahead 4-2. After TU tied the game at 4-4 in the fifth, UNT retook the lead in the top of the sixth. The Hurricane took the lead for good in the bottom of the inning, scoring four runs. A home run in the top of the seventh cut the TU lead to 8-7, but TU was able to escape with the win.
North Texas dominated the remainder of the series, winning 14-4 and 13-4 on Saturday and Sunday to take two of three.
COLE AND ROUSE ON FIRE AT THE PLATE
Senior shortstop Maci Cole and sophomore right fielder Elle Rouse were terrors on opposing pitchers last week, particularly in the North Texas series. Cole slashed .857/.909/1.571 against the Mean Green with six hits, three runs scored, two doubles, a home run and four driven in. She was only retired once all weekend and was walked four times. For the entire week, Cole held a .700 batting average and doubled three times with five walks.
Cole is now on an eight-game hitting streak and has reached base safely in 13-straight games. That's the joint-highest hitting streak this season alongside an earlier eight-game streak from Amber Turner, and her reached base safely streak is the highest for any TU player this season.
Rouse had five hits and four runs scored, slashing .714/.750/1.143 against North Texas. She collected three doubles, recording two doubles and three RBIs in the game one win over the Mean Green. Rouse finished the series with four RBIs and four runs scored. For the week, she hit .625.
Freshman Amber Turner had a good week as well, tying the others with a team-leading four RBIs, including three in the win over UNT on Friday. She collected her first career triple, was hit by two pitches and walked once.
WOOD DRIVES THEM HOME
Senior Celeste Wood is batting .310 this season, third best on the team, and has the team lead with 26 RBIs. The first baseman, who is slugging .510, is second the team with 11 extra-base hits, hitting five doubles, a triple and five home runs.
FLASHING THE LEATHER
Maci Cole has featured at the shortstop for the majority of the season while also playing games at third base, making 10 starts at the hot corner while Claira Skaggs has been injured. She has since moved back to short and recorded a team-leading 85 assists this season, which ranks fourth in the conference and 20th in the NCAA. Her 2.36 assists per game is the second-best mark in The American and 36th in the nation.
COLE TAKES A WALK
Senior infielder Maci Cole has drawn a team-leading 29 walks at the plate this season, which leads all batters in The American. Her 0.81 walks per game is first in the league and 31st in the NCAA. This past week, Cole was walked five times.
DON'T RUN ON AMBER
Freshman Amber Turner is already showing off her talent behind the plate early in her Tulsa career. Turner has caught 12 runners attempting to steal, which leads the conference and ranks seventh nationally. The catcher is also showing off her skills with the bat, second on the team with a .299 batting average. She also has four doubles, two home runs and 12 driven in.
MAGNIFICANT MAURA
Senior pitcher Maura Moore has been busy, throwing 109.1 innings, almost half of Tulsa's innings for the season and the most by any Tulsa pitcher. She the second in The American for innings pitched and 32nd nationally. She leads the conference in games started (22) and tied for complete games (9), ranking 2nd and 47th in the NCAA, respectively.
TU SWEEPS DOUBLEHEADER AT WESTERN CAROLINA
The Golden Hurricane offense exploded for 17 runs over two games against Western Carolina in a Wednesday doubleheader, winning 9-7 and 8-3.
Tulsa jumped ahead 9-0 in the first two innings before having to hold on at the end of the game in the first contest. Celeste Wood hit a 3-run homer to open the scoring as part of a six-run first.
In game two, Tulsa spread its eight runs out over five innings, including two each in the third, fourth and fifth innings. Amber Turner's two run homer in the third helped Tulsa break the game open in the win.
MOORE WEEKLY HONORS FOR MAURA
For the third weekend in a row, senior pitcher Maura Moore earned The American Weekly Honor Roll accolades for her performances against Western Carolina and UAB. Moore went 2-0 in the three games, allowing just two earned runs in 16 innings of work, including a complete-game shutout against the Blazers in Sunday's series finale.
FAITH'S TRIPLE
Tulsa needed a big hit in its series opener against East Carolina with the bases loaded in the top of the second inning. Second baseman Faith Russell was there to provide it, recording her first career triple to clear the bags and put Tulsa ahead 5-0, a lead the Hurricane would never relinquish. Russell has two doubles to go with her triple this season.
HURRICANE SINKS PIRATES
In the second weekend of The American action, the Golden Hurricane went on the road for the first time in conference play and took down East Carolina two games to one. Maura Moore was the star of the weekend, throwing two complete games, including a 152-pitch 10.0 inning thriller to clinch the series. Over 17 innings of work against the Pirates, Moore allowed just a single run in each game, striking out 11 batters
Tulsa opened with a 5-1 win in Friday's opener. All five runs came in the second inning, which included a Faith Russell triple to score three of the runs.
The Pirates responded in game two with a decisive 9-1 win in six innings. The Hurricane offense couldn't get going, managing just four hits to ECU's 12.
The rubber match was a pitcher's duel, with both women in the circle going toe-to-toe in a complete game effort. Moore and the Hurricane came out the winner over Taylor Apple and her teammates. Moore allowed just seven hits and one run in 10 innings of work, while Apple gave up four hits and three runs, only one earned.
Annika Dill drove in the game winning runs with a single down the left field line that just stayed fair in the top of the 10th. She scored Maci Cole and Whitney Holcomb. A wild pitch earned Tulsa's third run. The Pirates scored their only run in the bottom of the frame, but Tulsa held on for the win
TULSA TAMES TIGERS
The Golden Hurricane opened American Athletic Conference at home against the Memphis Tigers, taking two of three from the conference foes. This was the third year in a row TU and the UofM opened league play against each other.
Tulsa won the opening game 7-3. After falling behind 1-0, Tulsa scored one in the bottom of the first, four in the third and one each in the fifth and sixth while keeping the Tigers scoreless after the first until the final at-bats. Celeste Wood collected four RBI in the win and Paige Knight added a pair.
Memphis responded in game two with a 13-3 win in five innings. Wood added her fifth RBI of the weekend, but Tulsa could not get out of its own way, committing five errors as the Tigers had innings of five runs and eight runs in the third and fourth.
Maura Moore tossed her second complete game of the weekend and first shutout of the season to help Tulsa win the rubber match 8-0 in five innings in the Sunday finale. Moore struck out three and allowed five hits in the five innings. Freshman catcher Amber Turner did a lot of damage at the plate, driving in five with a pair of hits and a sacrifice fly.

Senior outfielder and first baseman Celeste Wood and pitcher Maura Moore each made their mark in Tulsa's series win over the Memphis Tigers. They both picked up recognition in the conference's weekly honor roll for their efforts. Wood batted .857 over the three games with six hits, a home run and five driven in. She came around to score five times and drew a pair of walks.
Moore spun two complete games, including a complete game shutout in the 8-0 five-inning win to clinch the series on Sunday. Moore recorded a 1.75 ERA in 12 innings of work with 11 strikeouts.
CLAIRA IS GRAND
Senior third baseman Claira Skaggs played a huge role in Tulsa's 6-2 win over Lamar. She hit a solo home run to give TU a lead in the sixth inning. In the top of the seventh with the game tied at two, Skaggs stepped up with the bases loaded and smashed a grand slam to give the Hurricane a 6-2 win.
WELCOME TO TULSA
Freshmen Aliya Scarborough and Annika Dill introduced themselves to Tulsa fans in the opening weekend in big ways. In her first at-bat in the season opener, Dill doubled down the line to drive in a row. And then in her first at-bat of her second game, she homered down the left field line, scoring two. Scarborough made a big bang in her first plate appearance of her career. Facing the No. 2 Texas Longhorns as a designated player, Scarborough halved the Texas lead in the bottom of the third with a solo home run.
ON DECK
Next week, the Golden Hurricane softball team is back on the road for the first time since March 23. Tulsa will face South Florida in a weekend series in Tampa. First pitch for the Friday opener is set for 5:30 p.m. (CT) and will air on ESPN+.
