Tulsa Rowing Earns Runner-up Finish at Big 12 Championship

SARASOTA, Fla. — In its first year as an affiliate member of the Big 12, the Tulsa rowing squad put together two second-place performances, two third-place marks and a fourth-place tally for 65 points at the Big 12 Championship in Sarasota, Florida's Nathan Benderson Park Sunday morning to finish as the conference runner-up.

Seniors Kristina Harris, Taylor Hopkins, Ashley Johnson, Anna Shaw and Anastasiia Ustiuzhanina were named to the All-Big 12 Team, becoming TU's first student-athletes to earn Big 12 honors.

The Golden Hurricane outscored Kansas (52 pts), Kansas State (49 pts), Old Dominion (24 pts) and West Virginia (19 pts) and finished 19 points shy of the conference champion and nationally-15th-ranked UCF Knights, who swept all six races to earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Rowing Championship.

"It was a really exciting end to our season," Head Coach Brandon Campbell said. "All crews did a fantastic job, especially given some of the challenges we've had over the last couple of months. It's been a pleasure to coach them this year, and it's pleasing to see so many of them come away with medals."

Tulsa will keep an eye out for an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship (May 30-June 1) at Lake Mercer in West Windsor, N.J. The Selection Show will air live on NCAA.com at 4 p.m. Central on Tuesday, May 20.
