BROKEN ARROW, Okla. – Jenni Roller won the 108th Oklahoma State Amateur Championship on Thursday afternoon at Indian Springs Country Club, defeating Brooklyn Benn three and one.
Winning her first state amateur title, Roller also secured her spot in one of the most prestigious women's amateur tournaments in the world—the upcoming U.S. Women's Amateur, scheduled for August 4-10 at Bandon Dunes in Bandon, Oregon. This will be her inaugural appearance at this elite event for female amateur golfers.
Roller got off to a strong start, making birdies on the first and third holes, while Benn incurred a double bogey on the second. After Benn made a birdie on the fourth hole, Roller made an impressive eagle on the par-4 sixth hole, holing out from 108 yards, which extended his lead to three strokes.
A pivotal moment in the match occurred on the eighth hole. Benn had a putt for birdie, but before she could putt, Roller sank a 25-foot birdie. Benn then missed her shorter putt, which allowed Roller to extend her lead to four strokes.
Benn birdied both the ninth and twelfth holes, and while Roller had bogeys on holes 13, 14, and 16, Benn found herself just two down and within striking distance as they approached the par-5 17th hole. It could have been even closer if Roller hadn't made a significant putt to save her bogey on 14 and tie that hole.
Roller made a solid par on 17 to close it out 3 and 1.
