CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte (2-2-1, 1-0-0) secured a 2-1 victory over the University of Tulsa (1-3-2, 0-1-0) on Friday night at Charlotte Soccer Field.

The first half between Tulsa and Charlotte saw Charlotte take control early on, with a series of corner kicks and shots, culminating in a goal from Andreas Evangelou in the 26th minute, assisted by Ben Fisher. Tulsa's defense, led by goalkeeper Carlito Saylon, faced pressure but managed to hold off further scoring with key saves, including one from a shot by Wiktor Pucilowski in the 34th minute. This match marked Carlito Saylon's second game this season with four saves, equaling his season high. Despite efforts from the Golden Hurricane's offense, including shots by Luc Achermann-Stanfield and Gyuwon Chong, they were unable to capitalize on their opportunities. The half ended with Charlotte leading 1-0, showcasing a defensive strategy that limited Tulsa's scoring chances.

The second half commenced with Charlotte extending their lead to 2-0 as Robert Franke scored in the 46th minute, assisted by Elias Arsvoll. The Golden Hurricane responded with a determined effort, including a corner kick at 46:39 and multiple attempts on goal, but were consistently thwarted by Charlotte goalkeeper Leo Stritter. Tensions escalated with several fouls and yellow cards, notably a yellow card issued to Ian McIntosh of Tulsa at 52:17. Interestingly, Ian McIntosh attempted his first shot of the season during this match. Tulsa found an opening in the 81st minute when Alex Cunningham narrowed the gap to 2-1 with a goal, marking his first goal this season and the second of his career. Despite Tulsa's efforts, including two late corner kicks, Charlotte maintained their lead to close the half.

Tulsa fell to 1-3-2 overall and 0-1-0 in conference play. Charlotte improved to 2-2-1 overall and 1-0-0 in conference play.

Looking ahead, the Golden Hurricane will defend their home turf as they face Cal Baptist on Sept. 16. The match is set for 7 p.m. in Tulsa, Okla.
