TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa (6-3-2, 1-1-0) rallied with three second-half goals to defeat Temple (2-8-0, 0-2-0) 3-1 at Hurricane Soccer & Track Stadium.
The first half of the match between Tulsa and Temple saw Temple take an early advantage with a goal in the 19th minute by Eva Matesich, assisted by Teagan Harkins and Valentina Bitterwolf. Tulsa's Piper Szafranski and Maggie SymSmith were active on offense, both recording shots, though Taylor Vecchione made a key save for the Owls. Despite the Golden Hurricane's multiple attempts, including shots on goal by Natalie Hernandez, they were unable to find the back of the net. The half ended with Temple leading 1-0, as Tulsa was held scoreless despite their efforts.
The second half began with Tulsa still trailing, but they soon equalized with Kaleigh Hart's first goal of the season in the 67th minute, assisted by Brenna Rowlett—her first assist of the season—and Addison Castleberry. This goal was quickly followed by Ady Bechtel's first career game-winning goal in the 72nd minute, assisted by SymSmith and Hernandez, putting Tulsa ahead 2-1. Tulsa continued their momentum with Blaine Schutte scoring his second goal of the season in the 74th minute, off an assist from Jordan Frederick, extending the lead to 3-1. All goals from Tulsa came within eight minutes, with Tulsa forcing the momentum to their side. Despite Temple's efforts, the Golden Hurricane maintained their advantage throughout the remainder of the match.
"The girls worked together and reminded each other of our standard and finished every play and every attack," said Bechtel following Tulsa's victory. "We've got some tough games ahead. I'm very proud, to be able to get 3 points at home to open up conference."
Tulsa improved to 6-3-2 overall and 1-1-0 in conference play following the win. Temple fell to 2-8-0 overall and 0-2-0 in conference play.
In their next game, Tulsa travels to Boca Raton, Fla., to face Florida Atlantic next Thursday. The match is set for 6 p.m. as they look to continue their campaign on the road.
