Volonski Advances to Second Round of Qualifying at ITA All-American Championships

TULSA, Okla. – Nikita Volonski was the lone Golden Hurricane to advance Monday, moving into the qualifying round of 32 at the ITA All-American Championships.

Volonski handled his matchup against Wisconsin's Michael Minasyan in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. Fellow Tulsa player Timothy Carlsson Seger also competed in singles, dropping the opening set 6-2 before responding with a 6-3 win in the second. In the deciding set, Seger was edged out by 17th-seeded Duncan Chan of TCU, 6-2.

Tulsa's doubles teams came up short, sending both pairs into consolation play tomorrow. Connor Doig and Reiya Komagata fell to No. 9 seeds Ondrej Horak and Karim Al-Amin of Middle Tennessee, 6-1, 6-3. Gus Tettamble and Calum Jestin pushed their match to a tiebreak after splitting sets, 7-5 and 2-6, but were narrowly defeated 10-7 by No. 4 seeds Jay Friend and Pepijn Bastiaansen of Arizona.

Looking ahead, Volonski will face No. 17 seed Luca Pow of Wake Forest at 11 a.m. Tuesday. In consolation singles, Carlsson Seger will take on Henrik Bladelius of Clemson at 12:30 p.m. Doig and Komagata will meet a Notre Dame duo at 3 p.m., followed by Tettamble and Jestin against a Kentucky pair at 3:30 p.m.
