STILLWATER, Okla. / COLUMBIA, Mo. — The Tulsa men's and women's cross country teams each placed third in their respective meets on Friday morning. The Golden Hurricane men finished behind two of the top three teams in the country in #2 New Mexico and #3 Oklahoma State at the Cowboy Jamboree, while true freshman Evyn Humphrey finished second overall to push the women to a bronze finish at the Gans Creek Classic.

Shay McEvoy led the men with a 10th overall placement on the Greiner Family Cross Country 8K Course in 23:59.4. Ben Brown took 20th with Levi Rowan right behind at 21st. Rounding out the top five for TU was Charlie Krasnoff in the four-spot with James Knockton taking fifth. Joseph Stoddard (24:57.9), Graham Mitchell (26:01.3) and Micah Blomker (26:21.3) each set baseline times in their first 8K races for the Golden Hurricane.

"Overall, we went against some really strong teams and individuals today on arguably the toughest NCAA Cross Country course in the country," said Men's Head Coach Taylor Gulley. "We got out aggressively and maybe paid for it late, but we challenged the guys to take risks today. I think this bodes well for the rest of the season and I think we're going to improve massively throughout the rest of the season!"

On the women's side, Evyn Humphrey, in just her second collegiate meet, sped ahead on the Gans Creek 6K course in 20:14.6 to finish second out of 236 individual competitors. Kathryn Koonts placed 31st with veteran Robyn Kowaski finishing as the third Tulsa runner. Matilda Laidlaw (61st) and Sarah Hosey (69th) contributed to Tulsa's points as the team's fourth and fifth finishers, while Sara Morefield (22:01.7) and Billie Rouse (24:06.8) each saw their first 6K action Friday.

Looking ahead, the Tulsa men will head to Wisconsin to compete in the Nuttycombe Invitational, while the women will take on Texas A&M's Arturo Barrios Invitational. Both meets are on October 17.
