Tulsa Men Fall to Drake 2-1

TULSA, Okla. — The University of Tulsa (1-2-2, 0-0-0) fell to Drake University (3-0-2, 0-0-0) with a 2-1 loss at Hurricane Soccer & Track Stadium on Saturday evening.
Tulsa's Jared Aguilar initiated the early pressure with a shot at the 2nd minute, but it went over the top of the net. Drake's Evan Carlson had a busy moment around the 16th minute with two quick shots, one saved by the Tulsa defense. Drake managed to capitalize on the momentum, scoring in the 17th minute with Preston Kipnusu finding the net, assisted by Barrett Kitts. Tulsa responded with determination, leveling the score in the 20th minute when Will Applegate scored his first career goal, assisted by Nils Orywol and Gijs Hovius, who achieved his first assist of the season. The half concluded with the score tied 1-1.
Despite early attempts on goal in the second half by both teams, the half remained scoreless until Drake's Jackson Kirsch converted a penalty kick in the 83rd minute to give Drake a 2-1 lead. Tulsa's Joses Chukwu and Alex Cunningham each had shots on goal, but Drake's goalkeeper Tomas Butkovic made crucial saves to maintain the advantage. Tulsa had opportunities on corner kicks in the 71st and 75th minutes, but were unable to capitalize on them. The game concluded with Drake holding on to their lead, securing a 2-1 victory.
Tulsa holds a record of 1-2-2 on the season. Drake remains undefeated with a record of 3-0-2.
The next challenge for Tulsa is a journey to Charlotte, N.C., where they will face Charlotte on September 12. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. as Tulsa takes the field as visitors.
