Record-Setting Start for Tulsa at Washburn Open

TOPEKA, Kan. – Tulsa track & field opened competition at the Washburn Open with a strong showing across sprints and distance events, highlighted by a facility record and multiple NCAA-ranked performances.
In the women's 60-meter dash prelims, Kamree Dye led the Golden Hurricane with a 33rd-place finish in 7.80, followed by Isabella Famiglietti (42nd, 7.85), Alexis Cavin (50th, 7.88) and Sajara Hill (71st, 7.98). On the men's side, Tyler Priest advanced to the finals in the 60-meter dash after placing 28th in the prelims with a time of 6.93.
Tulsa competed in the 200-meter dash with Cavin finishing 31st in 25.19, Annie-May Cannings taking 60th in 25.84 and Gabbie Washington placing 72nd in 26.58. Harrison Stapleton represented the men in the 200 meters, finishing 35th with a time of 22.17.
In middle-distance action, Jaylin VonWald posted a 31st-place finish in the women's 600-yard run at 1:35.47. Tulsa's men had a strong showing in the 5,000-meter run, as Micah Blomker finished ninth in 14:24.79 and Joseph O'Connell placed 12th in 14:32.51.
The highlight of the day came in the distance medley relays. Tulsa A captured first place in the women's DMR with a time of 11:39.54, featuring Billie Rouse, Famiglietti, Hannah Taylor and Sarah Hosey. The performance broke a facility record previously set by Tulsa in 2022 and currently ranks No. 20 in the NCAA. The men's DMR squad followed with an impressive second-place finish, as the Tulsa A team of Andrew Lutkenhaus, Joseph Snyder, Sean Korsmo and Ayden Taylor ran 9:53.28, a mark that currently ranks No. 16 nationally. Tulsa B finished 11th in 10:26.99.
In field events, Rylie Hancock placed 24th in the women's triple jump with a mark of 10.83 meters.
Competition will continue tomorrow as the Golden Hurricane returns to the track at Sneed Indoor Athletic Facility to close out the event.
