ITHACA, N.Y. – Tulsa opened its Saturday at the Reis Tennis Center with a commanding 4-0 sweep of Binghamton before dropping a tightly contested 4-2 decision to No. 26 Cornell in the evening match.
The Golden Hurricane wasted no time setting the tone in the opener, clinching the doubles point behind wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Calum Jestin and Connor Doig secured a 6-4 victory at the top spot , while Victor Tosetto and Gus Tettamble were dominant in a 6-2 win on court three.
Tulsa carried that momentum straight into singles. Doig rolled to a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 3, and Reiya Komagata added a 6-1, 6-3 victory on court five. Ruben Fernandez sealed the match at No. 2 with a 6-3, 6-2 decision, giving the Hurricane a clean 4-0 finish with three singles matches left unfinished.
In the second match of the day, Tulsa again grabbed the early edge in doubles. Nikita Volonski and Timothy Carlsson Seger earned a 6-3 win at No. 2, and Tettamble and Tosetto battled to a 6-4 victory at No. 3 to claim the doubles point.
Cornell responded in singles, however, taking four first-set leads across the courts and ultimately securing the team win. The Big Red picked up straight-set victories against Doig and Fernandez, 6-4, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-4, to swing momentum.
Tosetto delivered Tulsa's lone singles win of the match with a 6-0, 6-4 decision in the sixth slot, but Cornell clinched with wins against Volonski (6-4, 6-4) and Taco (6-4, 7-5). Carlsson Seger's match was left unfinished in the third set as the 26th-ranked Big Red closed out the 4-2 result.
