TULSA, Okla. – Tulsa men's tennis (14-10) closed out its home slate with a 4-0 sweep of VCU (6-11) on Sunday, sealed by a clinching victory from Senior Day honoree Takeshi Taco.
Tulsa set the tone early in doubles play. Nikita Volonski and senior Timothy Carlsson Seger opened with a decisive 6-1 win over Alfred Almasi and Nicolo Consonni. Victor Tosetto and senior Gus Tettamble followed by securing the doubles point with a quick 6-2 victory on court three. Calum Jestin and Connor Doig left their match unfinished, holding a 5-2 lead.
In singles, Tulsa's seniors continued to deliver. Tosetto put the Hurricane on the board with a commanding 6-2, 6-2 win on court six. Carlsson Seger followed with a 6-2, 6-1 victory, pushing Tulsa within one point of the sweep.
Taco sealed the match on court three, grinding out a 6-4, 6-3 win to clinch it for the Hurricane. The Lima, Peru native notched his third clinch of the season and 16th singles win, and extended his singles winning streak to four matches, tied for the longest on the team this year.
While Sunday marked the seniors' final regular season home match, they will return to the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in a few weeks when Tulsa hosts the American Conference Men's Tennis Championship. Up next, the Golden Hurricane travel to Houston to face Rice on April 3 at 5 p.m.
