Tulsa Comes Up Short Against Rice

HOUSTON, Texas – Tulsa men's tennis fell 4-0 to No. 57 Rice on Friday evening at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
Rice took control in doubles, winning both matches needed to clinch the point. Calum Jestin and Connor Doig, along with Nikita Volonski and Timothy Carlsson Seger, each dropped 6-3 decisions. Gus Tettamble and Victor Tosetto gave Tulsa its only edge in doubles, building a 5-3 lead before leaving the match unfinished.
Singles brought tighter competition, but Rice secured the three wins it needed to clinch. Volonski dropped the first match in the No. 1 slot, falling 7-5, 6-3. Jestin battled but lost a first-set tiebreaker 7-6 (7-2) and fell 6-1 in the second. In the final completed match, Rice's Kabeer Kapasi outlasted freshman Ruben Fernandez 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.
The remaining matches went unfinished, with Carlsson Seger and Takeshi Taco holding Tulsa's only leads.
The Golden Hurricane continue their road trip Sunday with a 10 a.m. matchup at Tulane in New Orleans.
