Men’s Tennis Closes Out Regular Season With Win Over UNC Wilmington

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Tulsa men's tennis (15-12) claimed a 4-1 win over UNC Wilmington (10-11) to close out the regular season on Sunday.
The Golden Hurricane quickly claimed the doubles point by way of wins in the first and second slots. Takeshi Taco and Calum Jestin took their first match paired together 6-2 to put Tulsa in a strong position. Nikita Volonski and Timothy Carlsson Seger played in the first doubles spot for only the third time this season, staying undefeated in the position with a 6-3 win to clinch the point for TU.
In singles, Taco secured the first win, claiming a quick 6-3, 3-1 match over UNCW's Oscar Baumgartner. The Seahawks took one back in the No. 2 slot, with Alex de Gabriele defeating Carlsson Seger 6-3, 6-2.
Ruben Fernandez and Tosetto's courts secured the match for Tulsa. Fernandez earned his fifth win of the season in a straight set 6-3, 6-4 success, while Tosetto clinched the match for Tulsa with a 6-3, 6-3 result. The victory increased the Porto Alegre, Brazil, native's singles win streak to six and marked his first clinch of the year.
Two matches remained unfinished after Tulsa took the match.
The Golden Hurricane are back in action later this week for the American Conference Championships, hosted by the team at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Seeding and match times will be released prior to the start of competition.
