Tulsa Women’s Golf Heads to NCAA Waco Regional

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Tulsa Women's Golf program will be in the NCAA Championship field for the second straight season. The Golden Hurricane earned an automatic berth by winning the American Conference Championship. TU will participate in the NCAA Waco Regional from May 11-13.
The NCAA Waco Regional will be held at Ridgewood Country Club in Waco, Texas. It will be Tulsa's 22nd regional appearance since the regional format began in 1993 and the fifth time in the last six years.
A total of 72 teams will compete at six regional sites, competing to advance to the NCAA Finals, May 22-27, at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.
Tulsa will participate in the Waco Regional, which also includes Texas A&M (No. 4), Oregon (No. 8), Tennessee (No. 16), SMU (No. 21), Baylor, LSU, TCU, Colorado, Northern Arizona, Tarleton State, Prairie View A&M.
Thirty teams will advance to the championship in Carlsbad — five from each of the six regional sites. A total of 156 players will advance to the championship, with the top five teams and top individual (not on an advancing team) advancing from each regional.
The Golden Hurricane came into the NCAA Norman Regional after winning the American Conference Championship by four strokes. This was the second straight season that Tulsa has won the American Conference Championship and the first team they have repeated as champions in a conference tournament since 2004 and 2005. The Golden Hurricane played three golfers in the top 10 at the American Championship, including having two I the top five.
Tulsa has won two regional titles, both in the central region, in back-to-back seasons of 2001 and 2002. The Hurricane has also captured four national championships, including the 1980 AIAW, 1982 AIAW, 1982 NCAA, and 1988 NCAA Championships.
