Morefield Makes History, Qualifies for NCAA Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Sophomore Sara Morefield made history for Tulsa on Saturday at the NCAA West First Rounds, becoming the program's first women's NCAA Championships qualifier since 2014.
Competing in the third quarterfinal of the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Morefield clocked 10:00.72 to secure her spot in Eugene. The performance ranks as the second-fastest time in school history and gives the Lucas, Texas, native ownership of the three fastest marks ever recorded by a Tulsa woman in the event. She also becomes the first Golden Hurricane athlete to qualify for the NCAA Championships in the women's steeplechase.
Kathryn Koonts also represented Tulsa in the event, placing 38th overall with a time of 10:51.75.
Morefield will continue her postseason run at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore. The women's 3,000-meter steeplechase semifinal is scheduled for June 11 at 7:38 p.m. CT.
