Andrew Goodwin was promoted to associate head coach for the Tulsa men’s tennis program in October 2022. He came to Tulsa as assistant coach in June 2021 following one season coaching at the University of Charlotte.
Goodwin was instrumental in his first season in helping the Golden Hurricane reach the NCAA Tournament and finish the season with a 15-12 record and No. 44 national ranking. He helped tutor American Athletic Conference Player of the Year Kody Pearson. Goodwin’s presence has been evident in player development, recruiting and day-to-day management of the program
Before coming to Tulsa, Goodwin had six years of coaching experience at the college and USTA levels. He served as an assistant coach at Charlotte, Alabama, Mississippi State, and Michigan as well as working on the USTA Player Development staff.
Before his stint at Charlotte, Goodwin spent the 2019-20 season as a volunteer assistant coach at his alma mater, Alabama. The Crimson Tide had an 11-5 record and a number 26 national ranking before the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Prior to his Alabama return, Goodwin spent two years (2017-19) as an assistant coach at Mississippi State. He played a major role in helping the Bulldogs tally a 47-7 record with two SEC Tournament titles and one appearance in the NCAA Quarterfinals and one trip to the Sweet Sixteen while coaching seven All-Americans. In 2019, he was named ITA Southern Region Assistant Coach of the Year after the Bulldogs went 24-4, captured an SEC Tournament title and reached the NCAA Sweet Sixteen.
Before joining the Mississippi State coaching staff, Goodwin spent one season (2016-17) as a volunteer assistant coach at the University of Michigan. In that season, he helped guide the Wolverines to a 23-7 overall record and a 9-2 Big Ten record while finishing the season ranked 25th in the nation.
Goodwin began his coaching career as an undergraduate and volunteer assistant coach at Alabama.
In addition to his coaching career at Alabama, Michigan, and Mississippi State, he served with the USTA in several roles. In the summer of 2016, he worked with USTA Player Development where he learned from numerous national coaches and assisted the USTA Collegiate team. In June 2017, he worked with the USTA Collegiate National Team coaching top American college players on the ITF Futures circuit.
As a collegiate player, Goodwin began his college career at Southern Miss and played his final two seasons at Alabama. As a freshman at Southern Miss, he finished the season with a 22-7 record including a 19-3 record in dual matches. As a sophomore, he led the Golden Eagles in singles wins with 25 and doubles wins with 19. After transferring to Alabama, he won 30 matches in his two seasons with the Crimson Tide and as a senior earned the team’s Tenacity Award for his outstanding work ethic.
Off the court, Goodwin was twice named to the Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll during his time at Southern Miss. While at Southern Miss, he earned the Conference USA Academic Medal as well as being named an ITA Scholar-Athlete. At Alabama, he was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll twice and well as to the SEC Community Service Team in 2015.
A native of Alpharetta, Georgia, Goodwin graduated from Alabama with a degree in finance and economics in 2015.
