Kahlia Lawrence is in her first season at The University of Tulsa as a graduate assistant with the women’s basketball program.
Nelp recruited and coached Lawrence at Mercer where she was a four-year letterwinner (2014-18). She started in 132 of 133 career contests, tallied 2,275 points (17.1 ppg) and 696 rebounds (5.2), and shot at a 42.7 percent clip from the field and 78.3 percent clip from the free throw line.
Lawrence was the named the 2018 Southern Conference Female Athlete of the Year, the 2016, 2017 and 2018 SoCon Player of the Year, and the 2017 and 2018 Georgia Women’s College Player of the Year. She was a three-time all-conference first team honoree, a three-time SoCon all-tournament team selection and was the 2018 tournament MVP. Lawrence was also selected as the 2015 SoCon Freshman of the Year and was named to the all-freshman team. Off the court, Lawrence was a 2018 SoCon academic all-conference selection.
After her collegiate career, Lawrence was selected by the Minnesota Lynx in the 2018 WNBA Draft with the 24th overall pick and then was traded to Las Vegas.
Lawrence played for IrinFixi Torino in Torino, Italy in 2018 and 2019. She averaged 19 points, six rebounds, 4 assists and three steals, and was named the Italian Division second team. In 2020-21, Lawrence played for Olivais F.C. in Coimbra, Portugal and averaged 21 points, seven rebounds and four assists. During the 2021 and 2022 seasons, Lawrence was a member of the Vitoria Sports Club in Guimaraes, Portugal and posted 18.5 points, six rebounds and three assists per game, and was selected to the Portugal League first team and all-tournament team.
Lawrence earned her bachelor’s degree in communications from Mercer in 2018.
