Nevada Sweeps TU Volleyball Squad

The University of Tulsa volleyball team did not start its West coast trip off the way it wanted to, suffering a three-game set back (15-1, 15-12, 16-14) to the Wolf Pack of Nevada in the Old Gym on the UN campus in Reno, Nev.
Senior outside hitter Kristien Van Lierop and junior middle blocker Ashley Frogge' led the Golden Hurricane with six kills apiece. As a team TU hit a season-low .019 hitting percentage with only 27 kills. Senior setter Shannon Smith also added 19 assists.
Defensively, Frogge' recorded four blocks as Van Lierop led the squad with nine digs.
Nevada only hit .236 as a team for the match, however recorded 12 kills and a .579 hitting percentage in a decisive game one victory that set the tone for the whole match.
Sophomore Michele More had a match-high 16 kills for UN, whle Jill Couwenhoven added 20 assists. Junior Suzanne Stonebarger recorded 11 digs defensively, while More also added six blocks.
Tulsa falls to 15-4 on the season and 1-4 in the WAC. Nevada improves to 7-9 overall and 4-2 in the WAC. They are now 4-0 at home during conference play, while winning their third consecutive WAC match. Tulsa will travel to Fresno State on Friday, before facing San Jose State on Saturday.
