Volleyball Sweeps UTEP in WAC Action

The University of Tulsa volleyball squad won its second WAC match of the season, for only the second time in school history. The Golden Hurricane defeated The University of Texas at El Paso (15-7,15-11, 15-11) on Friday night in the Donald W. Reynolds Center before a crowd of 200 people.

Tulsa has won two conference matches for the third time in school history. At 16-7 overall, TU has won the most matches since the 1980 team finished the year with a 30-11 record.

Senior Kristien Van Lierop recorded her 46th career double-double with 13 kills and a match-high 18 digs. Fellow senior added 39 assists, while sophomore Tammy Leuer recorded a match-high 14 kills.

As a team the Golden Hurricane recorded a .280 hitting percentage, while holding the Miners to a .120 percentage.

The win raised TU's record to 16-7, 2-7 in the WAC. UTEP falls to 9-12, 1-8. The Miners have not won a match since defeating Tulsa earlier this season in El Paso.

Tulsa will hose the Owls of Rice University at 7 p.m. on Saturday night in the Reynolds Center. The match will also be aired on Cox Cable Ch. 9.
