Tulsa Holds Off Athletes First For Exhibition Win

Tulsa, Oklahoma - Greg Harrington's five-foot running jumper in the lane with seven seconds remaining in the contest clinched a 95-91 victory for the Tulsa Golden Hurricane over Athletes First in the first of two exhibition games for the Hurricane.
Tulsa took possession with a 93-91 lead with just under 40 seconds remaining in the game, and after a Hurricane timeout with five seconds left on the shot clock Harrington took a pass from Marcus Hill for his two-point basket, giving Tulsa the four-point lead.
The Hurricane built a 18-point lead in the first half with a 15-4 run to give the home team a 0-22 lead at the 7:18 mark. Athletes First cut the lead to seven points by halftime. Tulsa increased its lead to 14 points midway through the second half, but five three-pointers by Athletes First knocked the Hurricane lead to two points at the 1:22 mark.
For the game, senior forward David Shelton led five Tulsa players in double-figures with 21 points on 5-of-12 from the field and 10-of-13 from the free throw line. Hill, who scored 12 of his points in the second half and had a strectch of eight points in a span of 1:38, ended with 19 points and nine assists. Harrington added 14 points, followed by Dante Swanson's 12 and Kevin Johnson's 10 points.
For Athletes First, former Oral Roberts star guard Tim Gill had 18 points to lead six players in double digits, while former Tulsa forward Ray Poindexter had 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Tulsa will play the California All-Stars on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
