Volleyball Team Falls For First Time This Season

The Hurricane suffered its first defeat of the season in its opening WAC match at UTEP, 15-6, 15-8, 15-7, in the Memorial Gymnasium before a crowd of 583 on Friday night.
The Miners held TU to its second lowest hitting percentage of the season at .176. Kristien Van Lierop led the Hurricane with 13 kills, while Shannon Smith added 31 assists. Smith, along with junior Kara Hidinger, also had a team-high nine digs. Junior Anna Nedderman added three more blocks, defensively.
In 37 previous games this season, the Golden Hurricane was held to single digits only three times. As a team, the Hurricane produced its fewest kills in a match this season with 40. Defensively, TU recorded its second lowest total in digs with 36 and blocks with 6.0, of the season.
