TCU Defeats Golden Hurricane in Five-Game Thriller

The University of Tulsa volleyball team suffered its first defeat at home on Saturday night, as the TCU Horned Frogs beat TU in five-games, 11-15, 15-9, 15-6, 11-15, 15-11. The five-game thriller took only two hours and 15 minutes, before a boisterous crowd of 300 people at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
Senior Kristien Van Lierop led the Hurricane with 18 kills and 12 digs, for her fourth double-double of the season. She now has 42 double-doubles in her career. Fellow senior Shannon Smith added 52 assists as well, while junior Kara Hidinger also recorded a double-double with 16 kills and 13 digs.
TCU was led by senior Amy Atamanczuk. The outside hitter recorded a match-high 21 kills and 20 digs. Junior Lindsay Hayes added 56 assists, to go along with 17 digs, while fellow junior Marci King also recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 13 digs.
The win improves TCU's overall record to 10-7 and 2-0 in the WAC. Tulsa falls to 11-3 on the year, and 1-3 in the WAC. The Golden Hurricane will now travel to New York for four matches on Thursday and Friday, October 5 and 6.
