Miners defeat Golden Hurricane in WAC Volleyball

Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa volleyball team suffered its fifth Western Athletic Conference loss of the season at the hands of the Miners of UTEP on Thursday night in three games (30-24, 30-25, 30-25) at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
UTEP out hit TU in all three games for a 59-38 advantage in kills over the whole match. Three players recorded double-digits in kills for UTEP, led by Jennifer Abbruzzese and Ana Beatriz Fontes with 17 kills apeice. Back-up setter Michelle Norman added 44 assists, as well. Norman was pressed into duty because starting setter Krista Gronert left the match in the first game with a broken bone in her leg.
Freshmen Lindsay Eaves and Kristin Bailey led the Hurricane attack with 11 kills apeice. Fellow freshman Vanessa Thon contributed 30 assists and 11 digs, while senior Kara Hidinger added a team-high 13 digs.
Tulsa returns to action on Saturday as the Hurricane hosts Louisiana Tech at 7 p.m. Anyone with a ticket stub from the TU/Hawai'i football game on Saturday afternoon, will receive free admission at the volleyball match. A men's and women's basketball scrimmage will begin immediately following the volleyball match as well.
