Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Hawai'i Rainbow entered the Donald W. Reynolds Center on Saturday evening ranked 13th-nationally and riding a six-match winning streak. On Saturday night, UH showed why they deserved such a high ranking, as it defeated TU 3-0 (30-19, 30-9, 30-22) before a crowd of just over 200.
Hawai'i (9-4, 3-0 WAC) was lead by last season's WAC co-freshmen of the year Kim Willoughby and Maja Gustin. Willoughby recorded 26 kills while Gustin added 12 of her own.
The Hurricane (4-7, 1-4 WAC) were led by a Freshman of the Year candidate of its own, in Kristin Bailey and senior Ashley Frogge' with 10 kills apiece. Freshman Dana Weddle also contributed nine kills as well. Fellow freshman Vanessa Thon contributed 35 assists, while senior Kara Hidinger added 10 digs.
Tulsa closes the weekend with a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m., as it hosts UMKC in the Reynolds Center. Anyone with a ticket stub from Saturday's Tulsa/New Mexico State football game will receive free admission.
