Tulsa, Oklahoma - University of Tulsa fourth-year head women's tennis coach Paige McMurray announced today the signing of Claremore standout Tiffany Smith to a national letter-of-intent on the second day of the early signing period for high school seniors.
Smith, a 5-11 senior at Claremore High School, was the top-ranked player in the state of Oklahoma in the girls 16 and under in 2000 and was also ranked among the nation's top-50 tennis players. During her prep career, she won over 40 junior championship titles, including Missouri Valley Sectional Championships in the 16 and 18 and under divisions. She became the youngest player to win a state 18 and under singles title when she captured the Tulsa Nike Open at age 11. As a freshman at CHS, she won the 1999 Class AAAA State singles championship, and last season Smith attended the John Newcombe Tennis Training Academy in New Braunfels, Texas.
She chose Tulsa over Oklahoma, Baylor and Florida State.
"We are very excited about Tiffany's commitment to play tennis at The University of Tulsa," McMurray said. "She is an extremely talented player and great student. We look for her to make an immediate impact on our tennis program."
