Golden Hurricane Fall in American Conference Semifinal

HOUSTON, Texas – Tulsa's postseason run came to an end on Saturday afternoon as the Golden Hurricane (15-12) fell 4-0 to No. 1 seed Wichita State (21-3) in the semifinals of the American Conference Women's Tennis Championship at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
Wichita State seized early momentum by securing the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 1 positions. Uta Asakura and Carolina dropped their match 6-3 in the second position. WSU's nationally ranked pair of Giorgia Roselli and Xin Tong Wang closed out doubles play with a 6-1 victory on court one over Isabella Basson and Maria Santos.
In singles play, Tulsa was unable to recover as Wichita State secured three straight-set victories on the top courts to clinch the match. Maria Santos fell 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 1 position, Isabella Basson dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision at No. 2, and Carolina Alonso was defeated 6-1, 6-2 on court three.
Three matches went unfinished as Tulsa showed fight across the remaining courts. Coral Valle held a late advantage at No. 5, leading 6-4, 6-5, while Alice Baba pushed her match to a second-set tiebreak at No. 4. Erin McKenzie also remained in contention at No. 6 before play was halted.
Tulsa closes the season with a 15-12 overall record following the semifinal appearance.
