Lewisville, Texas - The Tulsa women's golf team, defending WAC champions, carded a first round 306 for third place at Western Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championships at the par-72 Golf Club at Castle Hills in Lewisville, Texas on Monday.
Tulsa was paced by junior two-time All-American Stacy Prammanasudh and freshman Julie Tvede, as the tandem each scored a one-over par 73 to share the lead with San Jose State's Marcela Leon and TCU's Brenda Anderson.
It appears to be a three-team race after the first 18 holes, as 16 strokes separate third-place Tulsa and fourth-place UTEP. TCU has the first round lead after scoring a 13-over par 301, followed by San Jose State's 302 and Tulsa's 306. UTEP is in fourth-place at 322, followed by Nevada's 323, SMU's 324 and Hawaii's 328.
For the Hurricane, in addition to Prammanasudh and Tvede, junior Dani Mallon and freshman Suzie Fisher carded identical rounds of 80 to tie for 17th place, while sophomore Maiko Senda finished in 20th place today with a round of 81.
Prammanasudh and Tvede each scored 36 on the front nine, and 37 on the back nine for their first round scores. Mallon, who seemed to have it going with a 37 on the front side, struggled for a 43 on the back nine.
Rounding out the top-10 individuals is TCU's Courtney Wood and Jennifer Patterson, tied for fifth-place at three-over par 75, while a three-way tie fills seventh place with San Jose State's Georgina Simpson and Helle Gram scoring 76 as did UTEP's Anne Mallory. San Jose State's Jessica Krantz is in 10th place with a five-over par 77 today.
The second round will get underway on Tuesday morning with the second 18 holes in the 54-hole event.
