Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida - The University of Tulsa women's golf team finished in 10th place in the 24-team field at the 2001 NCAA Division I Golf Championships on Friday, while the Georgia Bulldogs scored a two-over par 290 and surpassed third round leader Duke to claim the national title.

Tulsa scored a final round 309 and finished with a 72-hole score of 56-over par 1208, 32 strokes behind the team champion. The Hurricane began the day 17 strokes off the lead, and had an uphill battle on their hands. However, Tulsa couldn't find the groove that saw them post a three-over par 291 on the second round.

The Georgia Bulldogs had a four round total of 24-over par 1176, while Duke scored a 297 today and took second place with a 1179 total. Third-place Texas finished 15 strokes behind Georgia, while Auburn placed fourth at 1193 and UCLA and Oklahoma State tied for fifth place with 1194 totals. Rounding out the top-10 teams included seventh-place Southern Cal at 1196, Arizona at 1197, Stanford at 1201 and Tulsa.

Tulsa freshman Julie Tvede was the top finisher for the Hurricane with a 12-over par 300 score for 30th place. She finished with a five-over par round of 77 today. Tulsa juniors Dani Mallon and Stacy Prammanasudh turned in the best rounds today for the Hurricane with three-over par 75s. Mallon placed 35th with a 301 total, and Prammanasudh finished in 44th place by scoring a 303 total. Freshman Suzie Fisher and sophomore Maiko Senda each scored 82 today. Fisher finished in 53rd place with a 305 total

Duke's Candy Hannemann and Arizona's Lorena Ochoa tied for first place. Hannemann carded her second straight round of three-under par 69 today, while Ochoa also carded a three-under par score today. Both golfers finished the tournament with three-under totals of 285. But, Hannemann captured national individual medalist honors in a playoff.

Following a weather delay that saw nine teams still left to finish their rounds, Hanneman and Ochoa went back onto the course to break the tie for first place. Hanneman defeated Ochoa on the first hole of the playoff as she sank a par putt, while Ochoa bogeyed the hole.

LSU's Katy Harris and Southern Cal's Candie Kung finished in a third-place tie, two strokes behind the individual leaders.

The Hurricane, making its 16th trip to the NCAA Championships, improved upon last year's 16th place national finish.
