Women’s Golf Sits in Fifth After Opening Round at NCAA Waco Regional

WACO, Texas — The University of Tulsa women's golf team sits in fifth place after the opening round of the NCAA Waco Regional on Monday at Ridgewood Country Club. The Golden Hurricane carded a team score of six-over par 286 through 18 holes.
Tulsa trails first-round leader No. 21 SMU by nine strokes after the Mustangs opened the tournament with a three-under par 277. At the conclusion of regional play, the top five teams from each of the six regional sites will advance to the NCAA Championship in Carlsbad, Calif. In addition, the top individual not on an advancing team from each regional will also earn a spot in the national championship field.

Sophomore Samantha Olson paced the Golden Hurricane in the opening round, carding an even-par 70 to sit tied for ninth place individually. Olson recorded three birdies on the day, including two on the front nine.
Zoe Shamy and Romaine Masserey are tied for 12th place after each posted rounds of one-over par 71. Shamy turned in a steady performance after making the turn at one-under par before finishing the day with a pair of bogeys on the back nine.
Masserey rebounded from a challenging front nine in impressive fashion. After making the turn at three-over par, she caught fire on the back nine with three birdies over a seven-hole stretch to climb back near even par before finishing the round at one-over.
Allyn Stephens added a four-over par 74 and is tied for 41st place, while Jenni Roller rounded out the Tulsa lineup with a 12-over par 82.
Tulsa returns to action Tuesday for the second round of the NCAA Waco Regional. The Golden Hurricane will tee off from hole No. 10 beginning at 8 a.m. CT and will be paired with No. 16 Tennessee and LSU.
