Tulsa, Oklahoma - The Tulsa women's tennis team will play its first match in its new facility, the Michael D. Case Tennis Center at The University of Tulsa, this Friday at 10:00 a.m. when the Golden Hurricane opens the 2002 season against cross-town rival Oral Roberts. TU returns to the courts at 3:00 p.m. to face the Hampton Pirates.

Tulsa, which begins the 2002 spring season ranked No. 48 nationally, returns five letterwinners last year's 14-9 team. Junior Aleksandra Durska, who was named to the Western Athletic Conference second team in both singles and doubles a year ago, returns to lead the Golden Hurricane. Durska begins her third season with 69 career singles victories and needs 23 more wins to surpass Jennifer DeSpain's (1997-2001) first place mark of 92 career victories. Durska enters the 2002 spring ranked 47th among the nation's top-100 singles players. Also returning is the senior duo of Bianca Posada and Jana Sedivec. Posada was named to the all-WAC singles team a year ago, while Sedivec was selected to the all-conference first team in doubles.

The Golden Hurricane begins its fourth season under head coach Paige McMurray. McMurray has registered a three-year mark of 47-23 (.671) and needs just six wins this season to surpass current men's coach Vince Westbrook and become the school's winningest women's tennis coach. Westbrook coached the TU women from 1993-98 and posted 52 career victories.

TU defeated Oral Roberts last season at home, 4-0, and will meet Hampton for the first time on Friday.

Officially dedicated on Friday, Dec.14, 2001, the Michael D. Case Tennis Center includes a 54,000 square foot tennis pavilion with spectator seating, conditioning and training facilities, lounges, essential support facilities including bath and locker rooms, lighted outdoor courts and indoor courts, and electronic scoreboards.
