Hurricane Rowers Optimistic After First Regatta

Tulsa, Oklahoma - The University of Tulsa Rowing Team started off the fall season Sunday at the Head of the Rock Regatta in Rockford, Ill. Sophomore Megan Novak took home the top-finish for TU in the Women's Rec Single finishing a minute and a half ahead of the Quad Cities Rowing Club.
Sue Casey, senior, and Laura Brown, junior, stroked a tremendous 9th place finish for the Varsity 2A boat bringing in the third highest finish for the Golden Hurricane at the Head of the Rock this year.
"The Open Women's 4 with coxswain and Open Women's 8 could have rowed better," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "We can row faster than the results indicate, we have to step it up and we will."
Some of the challenges that face the Hurricane team is the inexperience that comes from a lack of racing and the young rowers that make up the TU Rowing Team. "Overall I am happy with how we raced. I am very optimistic," said Coach Harris.
"The Novice team, which finished 10th in the Women's 4 with coxswain and 14th in Women's 8, is very young and they have a lot of learning to do, but we have a great Novice group and Rosemary is doing a great job with them," Coach Harris said.
Next up for Tulsa is the Head of the Charles Regatta on Sunday, October 20th in Boston, Mass.
