Nevada Sweeps Golden Hurricane in Volleyball Action

Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Nevada used a balenced attack and a strong defense to sweep Tulsa, 3-0 (30-19, 30-20, 30-25) in Western Athletic Conference volleyball action in the Donald W. Reynolds Center on Thursday night. Nevada improves to 16-3 (5-1 WAC) on the season, while Tulsa falls to 16-7 (1-4 WAC).
Sophomore Dana Weddle posted a team-high 11 kills for the Hurricane, leading TU for the 10th time this season. Fellow sophomore Vanessa Thon posted 23 assists and 11 digs, to record her WAC-leading 14th double-double of the season. A third sophomore, Patricia Marques, finished with 14 digs for Tulsa. The Hurricane hit a season low .055 hitting percentage with 32 kills. Tulsa is 16-1 this season when hitting over a .200 percentage. The Golden Hurricane did improve on its WAC-best service ace total with five more against the Wolf Pack. Tulsa now has 191 service aces on the season and needs only 16 more to break the school record of 206 set by the 1991 squad.
Tulsa returns to action Saturday evening when the Hurricane hosts the Owls of Rice at 7 p.m., in the Reynolds Center.
