Tulsa, Okla. - The Golden Hurricane Rowing Team finished eighth in the Club Four event at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, Mass. Saturday. "The team is very excited," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "It has been a pretty awesome day. The team decided this was something they could do, so they set their goals high and came out with a strong finish."

TU started the race 42nd of the 54 boats competing in the event, but fought hard throughout the race to finish strongly. The winds were at an incredible 20 mph, which made the course even more difficult to maneuver, but "Alexandra Holter did a great job stroking the boat. Heather Wilson also did a great job as cox. She steered around a crash beautifully. She really handled it well," Harris said.

"It was the coolest thing in my life," Wilson said. "We have had some great practices together. We were motivated and we knew we were capable of a good race. We pulled away from the other boats and we didn't get into a crash, which is a big accomplishment for this particular race," she added.

Senior Lindsay Nook is still in shock. "I could not think of anything better for my senior year," she said. "Finishing in the top-10 is wonderful."

The Hurricane finished ahead of some of the better rowing teams in the nation including Miami, Rice and West Virginia, placing 23rd, 24th, and 30th respectively. With their commanding finish in the event, the Hurricane Rowing Team earned a spot in next year's invitation-only competition. "It was nice to go head-to-head with the best teams in the world. It gave us an opportunity to show what our team is capable of doing" Harris said.

The University of Tulsa will be competing in the Head of the Charles Championship Eights, which start at 4:00 pm Eastern. The Hurricane will once again be competing against some of the top programs in the nation including Kansas State, Iowa, Texas and SMU.
