The University of Tulsa rowing squad will travel to Austin, Texas, for the Longhorn Invitational this weekend, March 22nd through the 24th. This will open the spring season for the Hurricane rowers.
The Invitational is being held on Town Lake in Austin. The races are 2000 meters in length and dual-format, meaning one boat racing another head to head. Texas is the host school, with Kansas State, SMU, Clemson, and Iowa rounding out the field. This will be the first regatta for all the schools, except Kansas State, which raced last weekend against Creighton.
Tulsa will compete in four races throughout the three-day event. They will have two boats in competition, a novice-8 and a varsity-8. The rowers will compete against Iowa Friday evening. They face Texas Saturday morning and Kansas State Saturday evening. On the final day, Sunday, Tulsa will face off against SMU to finish the event.
Tulsa's varsity-8 boat will consist of Chrissie Williams (Coxswain), Solange Rousset, Sue Casey, Kristen Taylor, Jayme Anderson, Amanda Smith, Lindsay Nook, Laura Brown, and Melissa Lok (Bow).
The novice-8 lineup is: Marni Gesinski (Coxswain), Amy McGhee, Alexis Weidner, Libby Lowe, Megan Novak, Christine LaBarre, Sonya Miles, Kristy Wyatt, and Maggie Rosene (Bow).
Note: Tulsa hosts their only home rowing event next Saturday, March 30th, when SMU comes to town. The race will take place on the Arkansas River, near the 21st Street bridge, at approximately 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
