East Lansing, Michigan - The Tulsa women's golf team captured the team title at the NCAA Central Regional at the Forest Akers West Golf Course on Saturday with a final round two-over par 290.
Tulsa senior All-American Stacy Prammanasudh shot a one-under par 71 for the day and claimed the medallist honors. The individual title for Prammanasudh was the 10th of her career, just one shy of the school record held by Nancy Lopez. Prammanasudh completed the three-day tournament with a three-over par 219, four strokes better than second-place Martina Gillen of Kent State.
After beginning the day in third place, TU also received strong showings on the final day from sophomore Suzie Fisher, who shot a two-over par 219 to finish in 11th place. Sophomore Julie Tvede turned in a stellar performance for the Hurricane, shooting a one-under par 71 and tying Fisher in 11th place overall. Senior Dani Mallon completed the day with a three-over par 75.
Tulsa finished four strokes better than second place teams Ohio State and Texas, while Purdue and Oklahoma State round out the top five teams. Oklahoma completed the tournament with a seventh place finish. The Hurricane's 290 today was the best team effort of the day, while Prammanasudh's 219 was the second best on the final day.
With the win, Tulsa claims its third straight tournament and its fifth tournament of the season and the most since the Hurricane won eight tournaments during the 1984-85 season. It also marked the second straight year Tulsa won the Central Region title.
The Golden Hurricane will now advance to the NCAA Championships for the 17th time in school history and TU will look to add its fourth national title. Tulsa won two AIAW national crowns in 1980 and 1982 before winning the 1982 and 1988 NCAA Championships. TU has missed just four of the 21 possible NCAA Championship events.
