The University of Tulsa's rowing season concluded with its final showing in Austin, Texas, this past weekend. Tulsa's varsity-8 and novice-8 rowing squads competed in the Big 12 Invitational Championships, May 4th, on Town Lake.

It is quite fitting that Tulsa ends its Spring season where it all began. Two months ago, the Hurricane traveled to Austin for the Longhorn Invitational. This most recent trip was to compete in the "unofficial" Big 12 Invitational Championship. Only three Big 12 universities participate in rowing, so this is their own championship event.

Neither of Tulsa's boats faired well in competition. The first race of the day for Tulsa was its novice-8 boat. The novices lost to Kansas State by 25-seconds (7:11.2 to 7:36.2) which placed them into the Novice Petite Final, Saturday afternoon. In the Petite Final, Tulsa competed against the Texas Crew (club team). Tulsa came in 26-seconds behind the crew squad (7:45.1 to 8:11.9).

The Hurricane's varsity-8 boat, also, began the day against Kansas State. The varsity squad came in six-seconds behind the Wildcats' boat (6:36 to 6:42.7). This showing allocated Tulsa's eight to the Varsity Petite Final. The Texas crew squad beat Tulsa to the line by 24-seconds (7:10.6 to 7:34.9).

The "unofficial" Invitational Champion was the University of Texas. With a total of 55 points, Texas won the Championship over Kansas and Kansas State. The Kansas universities tied for second with each gaining 44 points in the event.
