Hurricane Volleyball Squad Moving Up NCAA Rankings

Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa volleyball squad is moving up the NCAA statistical rankings as released by the national office. The Hurricane currently rank sixth in the nation for serving aces per game with a 3.17 average. Tulsa also ranks 23rd nationally in hitting percentage at .284, in addition to having the second best winning percentage in the country. Eleven teams have undefeated records, while TU tops a list of 18 teams with one loss, sitting at 11-1 with a .917 winning percentage.

The Golden Hurricane will travel to the Gulf of Mexico this weekend for a pair of matches in the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Tournament. On Friday, TU faces Texas-Pan American at 5 p.m. On Saturday, TU takes on the host, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi also at 5 p.m.

Tulsa holds a 4-0 advantage in the overall series with Texas-Pan American. The Hurricane has swept two of the four matches, with the other two matches extending to four games.

The Islanders of TAMU-CC and the Hurricane have only met once before on the volleyball court. Tulsa swept TAMU-CC (15-6, 15-6, 15-6) to conclude the 2000 season at the UTPA Tri-Match.

By winning 11 of its first 12 matches, the Golden Hurricane passed the 2000 squad for the best start in school history. Tulsa started off 10-1 in 2000, before that the previous best start was 9-2-1 in 1982. The 2000 squad finished 20-13, while the 1982 club finished 18-18-1. The 1979 team also started 10-2, before finishing 22-19.
