Volleyball Team Picks Up Lucky No. 13 over Binghamton

Vestal, N.Y. - The University of Tulsa volleyball squad picked up its 13th win of the season Thursday night with a 3-0 (30-27, 30-15, 30-25) victory over Binghamton in Vestal, N.Y. The victory extends the Hurricane's best start in school history, as Tulsa has won 13 of its first 15 matches. It also marks the fastest a Tulsa team has reached the 13-win column.
Sophomores Dana Weddle and Lindsay Eaves recorded matching team-high 13 kills for the Hurricane. Weddle has led the Hurricane in kills the last four matches. Fellow sophomore Vanessa Thon recorded a match-high 39 assists. Her 10 digs gave Thon her fifth consecutive double-double on the season and ninth overall on the year. Freshman Evyn Bandy posted a team-best 13 digs as well.
The biggest turning point in the match came in the second game. Tulsa won the first game after a serving error by the Bearcats gave the Hurricane a 28-27 lead. With the scored tied at 12-12 in game No. 2, Tulsa was able to score 18 of the final 21 points for the 30-15 win. While Tulsa only recorded five serving aces in the match, a season low; the Hurricane did not give up an ace on defense for the first time this season.
Tulsa returns to action Friday night in the Cornell Invitational, as the Hurricane face the Big Red of Cornell. On Saturday, TU will face Niagara at 10 a.m., before concluding the tournament against Seton Hall at 5:30 p.m.
