Rice Defeats Hurricane in Five-Game Thiller

Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa dropped its third consecutive Western Athletic Conference match on Saturday, as the Rice Owls won a thrilling five-game match at the Donald W. Reynolds Center (30-25, 30-32, 25-30, 30-20, 17-15).
Rice (13-8, 4-3 WAC) was led by junior Rebeca Pazo with a match-high 23 kills. Fellow juniors Rebecca Kainz and Lindsey Carter also added double-figure kill performances with 19 and 11, respectively.
Junior Kristin Bailey and freshman Amy Meyer led Tulsa with 18 kills apiece as five Golden Hurricane players reached double-figures in kills. Junior Dana Weddle recorded 13 kills, while senior Nathalia Araujo added 12 more. Junior Lindsay Eaves also had 10 kills on the night. Setter Vanessa Thon posted her 11th double-double of the season with 62 assists to go along with 22 digs. It was the third time this season Thon had recorded 60 or more assists in a match.
Tulsa (11-9, 2-5 WAC) continues its five-match home stand on Thursday, Oct. 23, with a 7 p.m. match against San Jose State. On Saturday, Oct. 25, the Golden Hurricane host national power Hawai`i at 7 p.m.
