San Jose State Outlasts Tulsa in WAC Volleyball

Tulsa, Okla. - The Spartans of San Jose State recorded one more kill than Tulsa in a 3-1 (30-27, 30-24, 26-30, 30-24) Western Athletic Conference victory in the Reynolds Center on Thursday night. SJSU (7-12, 5-3 WAC) posted 72 kills compared to 71 for the Golden Hurricane before a crowd of 120.
Preseason All-WAC first-team player, Kimberly Noble posted a match-high 23 kills for the Spartans. Four Golden Hurricane players recorded double-figure kills, led by sophomore Sam Rutherford's 16 kills.
Junior Vanessa Thon posted her 12th double-double of the season with 58 assists and 10 digs. Sophomore Evyn Bandy and senior Nathalia Araujo both recorded 23 digs while junior Dana Weddle and freshman Brie Penaluna added four blocks apiece. Freshman Amy Meyer also recorded a double-double with 13 kills and 22 digs.
The match was TU's third of a five game homestand. The Hurricane (11-10, 2-6 WAC) will face the No. 2 team in the country in Hawai`i, on Saturday night at 7 p.m. in the Reynolds Center. Fans with a ticket stub from the TU/SMU Homecoming football game will receive free admission to the volleyball match.
