TU Men's Tennis Team Falls to Rice, 4-3

Tulsa, Okla. - The 56th-ranked Tulsa men's tennis team fell, 4-3, to conference rival 26th-ranked Rice on Sunday afternoon at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on The University of Tulsa campus.
Tulsa's Tom Murray and Shunsuke Shimizu fell in the No. 3 doubles position to Cody Jackson and Tony Haerle, 8-3, but Aleksander Charpantidis and Alejandro Tejerina netted a victory over Rice's Richard Barker and Takehiko Morita, 9-8 (3), in the No. 2 slot tying up the doubles point. Tulsa's Ryan Livesay and Dustin Taylor, however, could not hold on to a victory as they fell 9-7 to William Barker and Vuk Rajevac in the No. 1 position.
TU's 102nd-ranked Taylor netted the first point for the Golden Hurricane as he posted an impressive 6-3, 6-2 win over 36th-ranked William Barker in the No. 2 singles position, tying up the score. Shimizu, however, fell 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 6 position, giving the lead back to the Owls, but Murray posted a comeback win over Rajevac, 5-7, 6-3, 6-2, in the No. 5 slot to pull Tulsa back into the match.
Livesay fell in the No. 3 position, 6-4, 7-6, while 45th-ranked Tejerina lost, 6-4, 7-5, in the No. 1 position to 22nd-ranked Richard Barker. Charpantidis netted a victory for the Golden Hurricane as he overcame Jackson, 6-4, 7-6 (4), in the No. 4 position, but it wasn't enough as TU lost the match 4-3. TU posts a 10-11 record this season.
