Pillay, Durska Garner ITA Honors

Tulsa, Okla. - Tulsa senior Alicia Pillay was named the Regional Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Senior Player of the Year, while senior Aleksandra Durska garnered the Regional ITA Cissie Leary Sportsmanship Award, as announced today by the ITA.
Pillay qualified for the 2003 NCAA Division I Women's Singles Tennis Championships, marking her second appearance in the tournament, and finished the regular season as the 31st-ranked player in the nation. She currently boasts a 31-7 record on the year, with a 9-6 mark against ranked opponents. In her two years as a Golden Hurricane, Pillay has notched a 62-18 singles record and owns the seventh spot on Tulsa's career win list.
Pillay was named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Month for October and earned WAC Player of the Week honors on February 10th and March 3rd. She also won the 2002 Omni Hotels Women's Tennis Central Region Singles Championship.
Durska also qualified for the NCAA Singles Championships, registering a 28-9 singles mark this year. She owns the school's career-win record in singles and doubles, notching a 115-38 (.752) singles mark and an 88-43 (.672) doubles record. Durska was named the WAC Player of the Week on January 26 and March 10.
Pillay and Durska teamed up in doubles competition this year, putting up a 23-12 record, facing 12 ranked opponents, including seven ranked in the top-25. The tandem began the season as the 30th-ranked duo, but fell out of the ITA polls on April 28th. Pillay and Durska both earned all-WAC first-team singles and doubles accolades this year.
