West Lafayette, Indiana - The Tulsa women's golf team was off to a great start after the first nine holes, but faltered on the final nine holes and failed to make up any ground in the third round of the NCAA Division I Women's Golf National Championship on Thursday. Tulsa carded a 27-over par score of 315 today on the par-72 Kampen Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex
After the first nine holes, the Hurricane appeared to be making another move up the team standings with a six-over par score. However, the back nine dashed any hopes of moving further up in the standings as Tulsa carded a 21-over par score on the final nine holes of the day.
Tulsa heads into Friday's final round in 20th place with a 949 total.
The USC Trojans remain in first place following its round of 293 today for a 901 total and heads into the final round with a seven-stroke lead over second-place Pepperdine. The Wave carded a seven-under par 295 round and has a 908 total. Oklahoma State dropped one spot to third-place with a 912 total after today's 301.
Only 10 shots separates the next six spots, 4th through 10th place. Texas shot the day's best round of two-over par 290 and is in fourth place at 917, followed by Florida (918), Auburn (920), Ohio State (921), UCLA (924), Duke (926) and Arizona (927) rounding out the top 10 teams.
Tulsa junior Julie Tvede turned in the best round of the tournament for the Hurricane with an even-par 72 today. Unfortunately for the Hurricane it was the only sub-80 score of the day, as Tulsa also counted an 80, 81 and 82 for the third round total.
Tvede suffered a bogey on the second hole, but then birdied four of the next eight holes and sat at three-under par through 10 holes. A double bogey on the 11th hole and a bogey on hole 17 gave her an even-par score for the round. She sits in 35th place with a 231 total after 54 holes.
Freshman Christine Fernandez is in 80th place with a 235 total after carding a round of 80 today. She went four-over par on both the front and back nine in the third round. Fellow freshman Courtney Jones is in 93rd place following an 81 today for a 243 total, followed by Suzie Fisher in 109th place with a 247 total and freshman Cas Bridge with a 250 total for 115th place.
Individually, Florida's Andrea Vander Lende used a three-under par 69 today to move into a first-place tie with USC's Mikaela Parmlid USC's with four-over par totals of 220. Oklahoma State's Annie Thurman is one stroke back at five-over par 221.
