Tulsa Men's Tennis Team Demolishes UMKC, 7-0

Tulsa, Okla. - The 48th-ranked Tulsa men's tennis team began the season with a bang today as they demolished UMKC, 7-0, at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on The University of Tulsa campus.
TU easily claimed the doubles point as seniors Dustin Taylor and Alejandro Tejerina posted an impressive 8-1 decision over UMKC's Richard Harrison and Joe Kane, while Tom Murray and Olof Sjolund sealed the doubles point with their 8-2 mark over the Kangaroo's Tyler Burns and Evan Clark. The Golden Hurricane's Aleksander Charpantidis and newcomer Federico Soriano earned an 8-4 victory in the No. 2 doubles slot.
In singles action, TU's 93rd-ranked Taylor posted a perfect 6-0, 6-0 mark over Clark in the No. 2 singles position, as Murray recorded another Golden Hurricane victory with his 6-0, 6-2 decision over Jon Ghani in the No. 4 slot. It was Charpantidis, however, that finalized the win for Tulsa as he overcame Gelina, 6-2, 6-2, in the No. 3 position.
Soriano notched a win in his first collegiate singles match, surpassing Burns, 6-3, 6-2, in the No. 5 slot, while Sjolund defeated Kane in the No. 6 position, 6-1, 6-2. Tejerina, the nation's 57th-ranked player, also earned a singles victory, positing a 6-1, 6-2, mark over UMKC's Harrison in the top-slot.
The Golden Hurricane will look to continue its success as TU hosts Southwest Missouri State and Oral Roberts, with matches beginning at 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., respectively, on Sunday. There is no charge for admission.
